chapter 99-gun fire

February 27, 2018, working in the yard

There is and has been this pattern for some time. When we are working in our garden we begin to hear gunfire from Brett Schneider's property. On Sunday, February 25, 2018 we started to clean up our vegetable garden for a new season. We were both wearing flash orange, very visible. We heard what sounded like toy cannon fire which we believe was to alarm us and get our attention--the sound coming from Schneider's garage region. We documented the event and we started to record as we worked. We didn't rubber neck because we believe we were being watched. Then as we continued to rake we heard and recorded what sounded like a carbide cannon and a gun shot within seconds of each other. 3 years ago, I took out a bamboo grove 7 feet wide and 50 feet long where our vegetable garden is now. I hand-cut 500 stalks of bamboo and removed the root balls. The process was endless and took months. After it was discovered that I was regularly working in the garden region, there was predictable presence from the Schneider shared property line that we believe was meant to be disruptive, unsettling and menacing. Sounds would be made to get my attention. Bad imitations of dogs barking and strange guttural sounds were predictable. I continued to work and at times I documented. Often we would hear Jesse Repash's John Deere or ATV go up Alpine and come down to the rear of Schneider's property and just hang out and harass me as I worked. Too often when I was coming out of the house after taking I break, I would hear a male voice holler "here he comes" as I left our house to continue working. I also stacked all 500 stalks upright to cure, then after months moved them to a spot where they would interfere with the sightline from Schneider's property. And often, as I was working, there would be gun fire.

                       March 26, 2016, Easter Sunday

            Singing "I'm a bird watcher...I'm a bird watcher"                                      March 26, 2016

We could almost predict the gunfire from Schneider's, near the shared property line--there is a vibe, a mania. This time there were about 50 or more  shots fired. Years ago, after we discovered that Schneider had defiantly trespassed on our land by putting in an ATV trail and was maintaining it for 4 years like it was his property, we saw the link of gunfire and posturing. He belligerently approached us on a Sunday morning with a beer in his hand as we were inspecting the steel poled signs we installed on the trail, trying to berate us for taking action. That is when he voluntarily boasted that he and his son Michael Schneider stole our barn wood. The replacement value ranges from $25.000.00 to $40.000.00 considering the provenance. Jesse Repash told me he knew Schneider stole our barn wood. Brett Schneider boasted at that time that the Magistrate didn't bind the charges over to County Court after a hearing for charges made by one of his several ex-wives, Cindy, that he pointed a gun at her. We didn't know that. We aren't privy to all the neighborhood gossip. We got the impression that he was making a veiled threat to us. When we first put the signs up days later, Brett stood near the shared property line and discharged his 9mm for an hour. I stopped counting shots after 90. We have always suspected and believe that his gun fire displays, much like Repash's are meant to be a warning, a threat to stay in our lane. Some sort of chest pounding for some reason--"might is right".

In the Spring, we also dig up ostrich ferns that have grown into the lawn and transplant them behind our garage. This event always seems to be followed by gunfire near the shared property line. We are planting them on OUR land but we have gotten the impression that for some reason Schneider gets whacked when we get within 50 feet of the shared property line.

This video here is interesting --"bird watcher". We decided to explore who was actually shooting near our property line on Easter Sunday, March 25, 2016 at dinner time. So we went behind our garage and we were recording. We watched and it was Jesse Repash and we believe Michael Schneider (the son who helped his father steal our barn wood) shooting as if they were waiting for us--they would rubber neck. We stayed near our garage, didn't say anything and just documented. There were a few taunts towards us-"I'm a Bird watcher, I'm Bird watcher"...copying the chorus of the song "I'm a girl watcher". I have been told that "bird watcher" is Pennsytucky slang for a gay man--so I have been told. They were trying to insult us. Bird watcher is a gay man that hangs out in men's rest rooms with hopes of getting a glimpse of another man's dick standing next to them at a urinal (Urban Dictionary). No, we didn't call the police but we documented.

So on February 27, 2018 around 2:20 PM, as I was weed whacking the large ornamental grasses, we started to hear gunfire from the Schneider property. Often when I have used the weed whacker, it get Brett's attention so they know we are out working. We made several videos while we worked. Scott was raking up clippings and I whacked the many grasses that need to be trimmed for a new season. We take pride in maintaining our grounds and actually have done some landscaping. We both saw a man that we believe to be Brett. walk across his lawn to his house. Brett has an identifiable "lumber", similar to a person carrying lots of baggage with his head slightly down--very Big Foot. I received a letter from someone recently, a very reliable source, apologizing for Brett's behavior over the years in which he was described as a "narcissist, alcoholic". We also believe that Brett considers compassion a weakness and compassionate people are fools. We wonder if he was drunk on February 27, 2018 when he was shooting his gun? We also wonder if we had gone closer to investigate the gunfire that day (which we have every right to do) if we would have been shot or threatened.

We expect this to continue. We document just in case we find new bullet holes in our property.
